Causes of Cancer

Cancer develops when our self-healing system loses its ability to protect our body. Scientists have identified several factors that can contribute to this:

  • Immunological Factors: Our body is exposed to chemical and physical changes at the cellular level due to various factors such as our diet, the air we breathe, the products we use, and our emotional state. Over time, these changes can denature or affect cells, leading to their abnormal and rapid reproduction. Our immune system constantly detects these abnormal cells, identifies them as foreign entities, and launches an attack to destroy them. However, when the causes of cellular disruption are strong and persistent or our immune system is weakened, cancer can develop, overpowering the body’s natural defense mechanisms.
  • Genetic Factors: There is often a notable recurrence of the same cancer within families. For example, approximately 15% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have a sister or mother who has also had breast cancer. Source.
  • Biochemical Factors: Science has now recognized a wide range of chemicals that can induce cellular changes or disruptions in the immune and hormonal systems, ultimately leading to the development of cancer. Examples of these chemicals include those found in tobacco, certain pesticides, environmental pollutants from mining activities, petroleum and its derivatives, metallurgy, the leather and wood industries, the construction industry, and various other industries where exposure to carcinogenic substances is possible. Additionally, certain medications such as estrogen used for birth control or menopause symptoms, as well as artificial additives in food for preservation, flavor enhancement, or appearance improvement, can also contribute to cellular disturbances. Dietary factors such as consuming acidic foods, nutritional deficiencies or excesses, and excessive fat intake can generate free radicals, which are the main cause of cellular changes that increase intracellular acidity and reduce oxygen levels, thereby promoting or facilitating the development of cancer in the body.
  • Biophysical Factors: Radiation, including UV rays, X-rays, microwaves, nuclear radiation, and others, can induce changes in DNA and lead to the production of free radicals, initiating the initial changes in cancer cells. It is also observed that these cellular changes can manifest as alterations in vibrational organization before biochemical or microscopic changes become evident. Source.
  • Biological Factors: Various microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi, have been identified as contributors to cellular changes that can lead to cancer. Examples of these include the papillomavirus (HPV), Helicobacter bacteria, and the hepatitis B virus. The possibility of the Candida fungus as a cancer generator is also being investigated, along with other microorganisms.
  • Emotional and Spiritual Factors: Emotions such as sadness, depression, anxiety, and feelings of abandonment or disconnection with oneself can be significant factors in the development of cancer. It is not uncommon to hear about cases where personal, family, social, and work-related problems, relationship issues, the loss of a loved one, or a loss of identity precede the onset of cancer.

Survival rates of patients diagnosed with breast cancer between 2001 and 2002, according to the stage, as reported by the National Cancer Center of the United States, are as follows:

  • Stage 0: 93% of patients diagnosed with breast cancer at stage 0 survive up to 5 years, and of those who survive the first 5 years, 95% survive an additional 5 years.
  • Stage I: 88% at 5 years and 85% at 10 years.
  • Stage IIA: 81% at 5 years and 75% at 10 years.
  • Stage IIB: 74% at 5 years and 60% at 10 years.
  • Stage IIIA: 67% at 5 years and 40% at 10 years.
  • Stage IIIB: 41% at 5 years and 40% at 10 years.
  • Stage IIIC: 49% at 5 years and 40% at 10 years.
  • Stage IV: 15% survive 5 years, and 10% of those survivors reach 10 years.
